Dr. Glenda D. Price

On October 1, 2012 Glenda Price, Ph.D assumed the presidency of the Detroit Public Schools Foundation. In this role she is responsible for generating resources on behalf of Detroit Public Schools, and providing leadership for the efficient operation of this non-profit, 501(c) 3 organization.

Prior to this position Dr. Price served as the president of Marygrove College. She was the College’s seventh president and the first African-American female to hold this position. She retired from the presidency in June 2006.

Dr. Price is a native of Pennsylvania where she attended Temple University.  She earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology, a master’s degree in educational media and a Ph.D. in educational psychology.  In addition, she completed the Management Development Program and New Presidents’ Institute atHarvardUniversity.

Immediately prior to coming to Marygrove, Dr. Price served as Provost of Spelman College inAtlanta,Georgia. During her tenure there, as senior academic officer, she participated in the program that raised over $100 million for the institution.  She has held positions as dean of theSchoolofAllied Health Professionsat theUniversityofConnecticut, and professor and assistant dean of theCollegeofAllied Health ProfessionsatTempleUniversity.  Over her more than 30 years in higher education, she has served on several university boards and committees dealing with issues such as affirmative action, educational programs and policies and student welfare.

Additionally Dr. Price has served in numerous professional associations including the national president, during 1979-80, of the American Society for Medical Technology, the largest professional organization for laboratory practitioners at the time. She is the only African American who has held this office. For many years Dr. Price served as the chief delegate from theU.S.to the International Association for Medical Laboratory Technologists. She has also, served as the president of the National Certifying Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel, the Board of Directors of the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions, and the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.

While retired Dr. Price served as the Interim President of the Michigan Colleges Foundation from Jan. 1 through June 30, 2008 and she has been engaged in volunteer activities with numerous organizations and agencies. She is currently serving as the chair of the Board of Directors of Focus: HOPE, secretary for the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, member of the boards of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Compuware Corporation, Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, Council of Michigan Foundations, Detroit Receiving Hospital, The YES Foundation, and The Jewish Fund, among others. Most recently she has been appointed by the Governor to serve on the Financial Advisory Board for the City ofDetroit.

She resides inDetroit,Michigan.  She is an avid reader, loves international travel and gourmet cooking.
