President's Message - February 2019

February 28, 2019

Priscilla Archangel

In one month, we will honor the accomplishments of women business owners and leaders at the Somerset Inn in Troy.  Please join us as we Connect, Learn and Grow on Thursday, March 28th at our 25th Annual Top 10 Michigan Business Women Awards Dinner. We’re excited to be at a new location this year and pleased to have Barbara McQuade, former U.S. Attorney General for the Eastern District of Michigan, current faculty member at The University of Michigan Law School and legal analyst for NBC News and MSNBC, as our keynote speaker. She will also receive this year's GREATER GOOD AWARD.  In addition, we will honor 11 women in 10 different categories: EMERGING BUSINESS, MILLENNIAL ENTREPRENEUR, WORDS OF WISDOM, NAWBO/EXCEL YOUNG ENTREPENEUR, GIVING SPIRIT, DIVERSITY CHAMPION CORPORATE, DIVERSITY CHAMPION BUSINESS OWNER, WARRIOR, INNOVATION AND PINNACLE.  Watch your email tomorrow as we announce our complete list of honorees. You may support this event by becoming a sponsor, purchasing an ad, attending the event and/or donating an item for our silent auction. A portion of the proceeds supports our 501(c)3 organization NAWBO/EXCEL, which provides education, training and mentorship to prepare young girls to become entrepreneurs. For sponsorship opportunities and registration click here

Tomorrow kicks off NAWBO's Spring Membership Drive. From March through April 30th there are two ways new members can save along with an incentive for current members who refer new members.

First, any new member who joins at any level receives a $25 discount off the NEW member initiation fee. Plus, she will be entered to win a complimentary registration ($400 value*) for the 2019 National Women's Business Conference (WBC), hosted by NAWBO.

Second, current members who refer three or more members who join at the Premier annual membership level will receive a complimentary registration to WBC 2019! Plus, the members you refer who join at this level will have their $100 new member initiation fee waived. When signing up, new members must provide the promo code LUV and put down the referring member's name. Click HERE to download the details of the referral program and let’s grow our NAWBO community together. You can also log in to your account at any time either on the national site or Detroit chapter site and all details on the program are  listed there.

The 2019 NAWBO Survey has been emailed to all members. Please complete it by April 17 since this will provide our National NAWBO organization with sound data to ensure programming meets members’ needs, and to influence public policies that will improve the business environment for women business owners. We want our Detroit chapter to submit the most surveys so that we can win the nationwide large chapter competition! If we do, one of our members will be featured in the National Member Spotlight and our chapter receives a complimentary registration to WBC.  Fill out the survey here.
