President's Message - August 2018

President's Message

     August 13, 2018

 Hello Friends and Colleagues,

Priscilla Archangel, Ph.D.Since stepping into my role as President in June, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many NAWBO leaders from chapters around the country as we came together in our nation’s capital for a formal installation and orientation. I’m excited about working with this powerful group of women and to attend the National Women’s Business Conference, September 23-25 in Spokane, WA.  This year’s theme is “Work Well, Live Well.” As women entrepreneurs, our lives are a journey, never a destination. We run successful businesses and households, give back to our communities, advocate for causes we care most about and nurture other life passions. We are constantly focusing, refocusing, pushing, pausing, inventing, reinventing, stretching and balancing—and growing every step of the way along the many paths we take. We hope you will be able to join our NAWBO community as we embrace this exciting journey together to “work well, live well”! More details are available on the national website.

Working with the Greater Detroit Chapter Board of Directors, my focus in the coming year is to continue to grow our community of inspired servant leaders and women business owners by providing programming that enables us to:

  • Connect by building networks
  • Learn by sharing insights
  • Grow by achieving goals

Here are some of the exciting opportunities coming up, and one that we just completed.

WOMEN ON BOARD: Our 6th Annual Women on Board Cruise on August 2nd was a perfect summer evening for sailing the Detroit River. Participants enjoyed delicious food and the opportunity to Connect, Learn and Grow from our expert panel on the topic of business growth strategies, moderated by Paula Tutman, WDIV Emmy Winning Broadcast Journalist. Check out the photos on our website. Panelists included Constance Logan of the Small Business Administration, Kim Baber of Varnum Law, Camille Walker Banks of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses and Grose Vuljaj of Comerica Bank. And as a bit of icing on the cake, they’ve shared their summer reading list with us!

If accepted into the program, tuition is fully paid for by the Goldman Sachs Foundation. This session will be held at Tech Town Detroit, 440 Burroughs, Detroit.
